I originally did not expect to update because I thought I wouldn’t have access to Internet, but this Chinese tour group I’m with picked a really nice hotel with free wifi. Didn’t bring my laptop though, so no picture updates (yet).
Driving through France is gorgeous.
More greenery, cute houses scattered randomly…tried to take pictures, but then discovered the folly of sitting on the left side of the bus: half your view is blocked by ROAD.
The clouds were low and ominous, but it looks breathtaking with the green fields and mountains.
At the rest stop, my fellow countrywomen and I discovered a surprise: the toilets have no seat covers. They exclaimed and complained, while I laughed.
So much bread. Lunch was bread or sandwiches (essentially bread) or croissant (more bread).
We made an unexpected stop in Lucerne, Switzerland where the hotel is. It was GORGEOUS, everything I could ask for. Dear Arjun (and Sujay), i am incredibly jealous of you guys right now. Cute little shops (unfortunately mostly closed, we arrived late at around 6:30), hidden winding alleyways to explore, castle-like facades mixed with modern buildings. The lakes had swans in them. Swan lake! Here I thought it was just an image, not an actual real thing.
For dinner, I found a hidden Thai restaurant. The owner was a Swiss man who spoke six languages: Italian, German, English, Spanish, French, and Yugoslavian from his experiences as a construction worker contracted to work in a new country every six months. He had been to nearly every country in Europe and countries in Africa through this job. His wife is from Laos; they married and decided to open a restaurant with her brother as the cook. They were an adorable couple, given to taking a drag on their cigarettes together in the rain.
